Blog Journal #10

In the future when I am a teacher I see myself using data collection surveys to get feedback from my High School students on how I can improve in my teaching. When I was in high school my 10th grade English teacher would send out surveys like the ones we went over in class after an exam that had questions regarding how prepared we felt for the exam. Based on our responses she would alter her lesson plans based on what areas she could improve from the survey data. I think this is a great way for students to communicate with their teacher and let them known how they need help in class.

Something that I enjoyed while reading other classmates blogs is learning how each of us would implement the technology we have learned over the course of the semester into our personal teaching careers. Over the course of this semester we have been introduced to a number of different forms of technology that we will later be able to use in our own classroom. I think assistive technology is an amazing form of technology and I really liked hearing my classmates opinions on the effectiveness of theses technologies. Rey taught me a lot with her presentation about screen readers and how she uses assistive technology.

One technology skill that I would like to learn is using VR in the classroom. As a future educator I want to be capable of using many different types of technology while teaching to make the most out of my students learning experience. With the use of VR you can transport your students into another dimension and make then feel like they're in a new world. Not only is this a great way to learn but also very entertaining form of technology for students.

Blog Journal #9

During the Covid-19 Pandemic that started in March of 2020, there was a transition from in person learning to online due to it being unsafe for students and staff to be in the classroom at the time. One thing that I liked about distant learning is that it allowed me to attend class from the comfort of my bed. It was nice being able to wake up a short amount of time before having to join my class on zoom. On the other hand, one downside to distance learning is I felt very disconnected from the classroom and the classmates. I often found myself easily getting distracted while participating in distant learning because it was not a formal classroom setting.

Open Educational Resources are free resources that is publicly open for people to use. Bellow I have attached a link to a website titled “OER Commons” which is a webpage where you can both research and upload your own OER. Within the website there is a feature where you can sign up and join groups to share different OER within each other . I think this would be a great way for teachers to share open online resources that they think others can benefit from.

While PowerPoint is not an application that was newly introduced to me, I did learn many new functions that the software has to offer. While completing assignment #4 I learned that you can do a voice over to your slideshow that can be used for others to watch your presentation. One thing I liked about assignments 4 and 5 is that it gave me a better understanding of some of the tasks that teachers do when creating their presentations / slideshows. One thing that I feel that I can improve on based on theses assignments is the overall organization and alignment of my PowerPoints.

Blog Journal #8

There are multiple forms of assistive technologies that assist people with disabilities when trying to use technology. Some examples of the different forms of assistive technologies that exist are screen readers, screen magnifiers, speech-generated devices and many more. With the use of theses forms of technology it allows people with many different types of disabilities be able to operate technology as well as the world around them more smoothly. I love the idea of assistive learning because I believe it is important for all people to get the same learning experience as one another.

Diigo is a platform that was newly introduced to me this semester because of this class. When we were first introduced to Diigo I was a bit confused with the overall format of the site, but after using it to complete portfolio items I found it was very user friendly. I like the function of being able to bookmark sites that you think other people in your class or groups would find useful. I can see myself using Diigo in my future classroom when doing group work as a way for the students to community through booking for this assignments.

One of the many important roles for a teacher is for them to introduce to their students how to use the internet properly and effectively. With the internet constantly changing and evolving it can be a challenge for teacher to keep up. I've included a link to a site that shows the 5 biggest education trends so far in the year 2023. A common theme amongst the trends are new forms of technology being introduced into the classroom such as virtual reality. Students can step into a world outside of the classroom through theses devices and are making the opportunities endless for learning.

Blog Journal #6

One of the new Web 2.0 applications that have been introduced to me this semester is Diigo. When we were first going over the Diigo software in class I thought that site was going to be difficult to navigate as I don't have the best skills using technology. However after using it to complete some of the portfolio items I found that the extension is very user friendly. I can see myself possibly using this application in the future for students in my classroom to share articles they have found online.

Also introduced to me this semester is Blogger which is an online site that allows you to post blogs for others to see. I think this is cool way to showcase work and I like the customization options that you can make to your blog to make it feel personal. It is also nice to look at other classmates blogs and see their opinions on the different topics we discussed in class that week. I also like that on blogger you can speak in informal language as its a personal blog and not strictly academic.

A Web 2.0 tool that has not been introduced this semester but I feel that I would use in my classroom is YouTube. On this platform creators post videos on a variety of topics which can often educate you. You can also post comments on creators videos that the creator and other viewer can see and reply. I have used YouTube many times when I was struggling to learn a topic in Mathematics or Science by findings videos of teachers who would post themselves teaching the specific lesson.

Blog Journal #5

Hello class, Twitter has always been my most used social media platform besides Instagram however recently I have been using it in a different way. Before taking this class I used Twitter as my main source for news and information regarding things happening in our world around us. Recently I have shifted from using twitter as a news source but now an academic source. I like scrolling through the #StudyTips as I have found many useful accounts and information regarding studying and test taking skills. As a future educator I feel that Twitter would be useful in discovering new classroom management and effective lesson plans throughout the many educational pages Twitter has to offer.

The digital divide can effect the success of students within schools because it can limit the amount of online resources that some students have in comparison to others. One of the main causes of the digital divide is because of the different financial status of families. As the cost of electronics can be fairly expensive, not every family has the resources to be able to afford a laptop or smartphone for their student. As we are transitioning into the era of technology, I feel that there would be major issues regarding the digital divide and the amount that students are learning. Students with technology resources may advance faster than those without which can create an issue within the classroom.

Using Canvas to complete assignment #2 was a great tool that allowed for easy collaboration for all of my group members and myself. Something that I enjoyed about using Canvas for assignment #2 is that all members of the group have access to editing which allowed each member of my group to submit their own portions of the assignment. Something that I disliked about using Canvas for assignment #2 was that I found it difficult to paste the group evaluation form into canvas without the formatting being messed up. I can see myself in the future creating Canvas groups for my future students when group work is being assigned in the classroom.

Blog Journal #4

The benchmark that I have chosen from the Florida Computer Science Standards was from the k through 2 grade level standard 1.4. This standard includes students working together on projects/group work as well as being introduced to constructive criticism from peers and students teachers. I feel that I would be able to incorporate this standard within my classroom because I have a lot of experience with group work as well as constructive criticism. Not only do I have a lot of experience with this standard I also feel that the two factors within the standard are extremely important to the learning process.

In the future I would be interested in teaching lower level elementary school students specifically in the subject math. One resource that I found was a mathematical story worksheet that introduces first grade students to addition and subtraction. I think it is interesting to mix different subjects into one another so I feel that a story including math equations would be engaging for younger students. Essentially the teacher would read allowed the story as the class listens followed by a few practice addition and subtraction problems that can be found under the story.

As a teacher I believe it is extremely important to be a proficient internet searcher because it benefits both the students and the teacher themselves. Oftentimes students ask many different types of questions to their teacher and they may not always have the answer off the top of their head. If a teacher is a proficient internet searcher they will be able to quickly look up the question and get their answer. This not only benefits the students by getting their question answered, but also the teacher benefits from learning the information too. From the skills that we went through this week I a looking forward to using the reverse image search in the future.
