Blog Journal #9

During the Covid-19 Pandemic that started in March of 2020, there was a transition from in person learning to online due to it being unsafe for students and staff to be in the classroom at the time. One thing that I liked about distant learning is that it allowed me to attend class from the comfort of my bed. It was nice being able to wake up a short amount of time before having to join my class on zoom. On the other hand, one downside to distance learning is I felt very disconnected from the classroom and the classmates. I often found myself easily getting distracted while participating in distant learning because it was not a formal classroom setting.

Open Educational Resources are free resources that is publicly open for people to use. Bellow I have attached a link to a website titled “OER Commons” which is a webpage where you can both research and upload your own OER. Within the website there is a feature where you can sign up and join groups to share different OER within each other . I think this would be a great way for teachers to share open online resources that they think others can benefit from.

While PowerPoint is not an application that was newly introduced to me, I did learn many new functions that the software has to offer. While completing assignment #4 I learned that you can do a voice over to your slideshow that can be used for others to watch your presentation. One thing I liked about assignments 4 and 5 is that it gave me a better understanding of some of the tasks that teachers do when creating their presentations / slideshows. One thing that I feel that I can improve on based on theses assignments is the overall organization and alignment of my PowerPoints.

Blog Journal #8

There are multiple forms of assistive technologies that assist people with disabilities when trying to use technology. Some examples of the different forms of assistive technologies that exist are screen readers, screen magnifiers, speech-generated devices and many more. With the use of theses forms of technology it allows people with many different types of disabilities be able to operate technology as well as the world around them more smoothly. I love the idea of assistive learning because I believe it is important for all people to get the same learning experience as one another.

Diigo is a platform that was newly introduced to me this semester because of this class. When we were first introduced to Diigo I was a bit confused with the overall format of the site, but after using it to complete portfolio items I found it was very user friendly. I like the function of being able to bookmark sites that you think other people in your class or groups would find useful. I can see myself using Diigo in my future classroom when doing group work as a way for the students to community through booking for this assignments.

One of the many important roles for a teacher is for them to introduce to their students how to use the internet properly and effectively. With the internet constantly changing and evolving it can be a challenge for teacher to keep up. I've included a link to a site that shows the 5 biggest education trends so far in the year 2023. A common theme amongst the trends are new forms of technology being introduced into the classroom such as virtual reality. Students can step into a world outside of the classroom through theses devices and are making the opportunities endless for learning.
