Blog Post #2

Hello class, as a student in high school and now in college, Microsoft Word has been a major part of my education. I started to use MS Word heavily my junior year of high school as classes switched to remote learning due to the pandemic. During this time it was common for teachers to assign activities that required us sending a MS Word document in. In my transition to college, I have continued to use MS Word to take notes in class as well as complete required assignments. However this semester I have switched over to Google Docs for note taking as i find it more user friendly on my IPad as opposed to MS Word. This change from MS Word to Google Docs has helped the speed that I take my notes because in the past I have struggled to get all the information down that’s on a PowerPoint while the professor is covering it.

I feel that the most important ISTE Standard for Educators is standard 2.4 Collaborator. This standard incorporates collaboration of teachers with others educators and teachers with students. Teachers working with others educators allows for new and less experienced teachers to get in-site information on things they could work into their teaching. The roles can also be reversed in this situation and the educator who is newly incoming to the field can share new and useful perspectives of what could work in the classroom to experienced teachers. This standard also allows for teachers and students to work together to see what works best for their students and how to fit their specific learning needs.

The term “digital native” is used to describe someone in our current generation who arguably agrees that learning is more effective when technology is being used in a learning setting. To be a digital native it means that you’re relatively tech savvy and prefer to receive their information digitally through videos and online activities as opposed to reading. Since being at FSU I have encountered professors that are “digital natives,” and also others who are “digital immigrants” also know as someone who is less experienced with technology. When instructors are digital immigrants I feel that it can somewhat effect the class because instructions and formatting of assignments are sometimes unclear. It can also take up a large amount of time when a professor is a digital immigrant and is having trouble with the technology they’re using.

Blog Post #1

Hello class, my name is Shawn Konsky and I am from Miami, Florida. I am a junior at Florida State University majoring in criminology as well as minoring in education. My plan after graduation is to attend law school at Florida International University back in my hometown Miami. Something I enjoy doing for fun is attending music festivals and concerts. In 2022 I saw a total of 26 artist some of my favorites being The City Girls, Future, Travis Scott, and Tyler, The Creator.

Personally I have used many different forms of technology in an educational setting. Throughout high school I used the multiple Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and Powerpoint to complete different types of assignments and projects. I also used Canva to make flyers that I would post on my schools Instagram page that I was in charge of my senior year. I hope that through this course I can discover new forms of technology that will help me throughout my academic career.

One of the things that I do for my personal learning network is subscribe to multiple different creators on YouTube who give useful studying and test taking tips. Another thing that I have done for my PLN is participating in study groups outside of the classroom with other members of my class. I find it useful to work in groups to be able to discuss different things going on in the classroom. Study groups can also be a relaxing time to chill and get to know the people in your class.
